GENERAL TRAVEL INFORMATION:

  1. Q: What is cost of the Flight? 
    A: Fluctuating, but currently it is $1,137/ person
  2. Q: How long is the Flight? 
    A: 13 hours going to Ethiopia; 17 hours when we return home

ROOM AND BOARD:

  1. Q: What is the cost of the Room? 
    A: Fluctuating, but currently $200-$250/night
  2. Q: Where is the Hotel? 
    A: Sheraton Addis Ababa, 2QC5+4R5, Taitu St., Addis Ababa 1000, Ethiopia

EXPENSES:

  1. Q: How much extra cash should be brought on the trip? This is cash
    separate from your room and board
    A: $1,000/ per Person recommended
  2. Q: What about currency exchange?
    A: There is a bank located in the lobby of our hotel that will exchange
    American money for Ethiopian Birr. We will check in and arrange to meet
    back in the lobby to take care of these transactions

INTERNATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Q: Will I need to obtain a real ID to travel? 
    A: Yes, you are required by law to obtain a real ID from DMV to travel.
     There’s a $10 processing fee and a $20 license replacement fee for people
    replacing old licenses, so be ready to pay $30 up front

    PROOF OF IDENTITY: Passport, birth certificate, SS card
    TWO PROOFS OF RESIDENCY: Signed/Active lease, mail from bank or
    credit
    card company (no more than 2 months old), utility bill

  1. Q: What is Global Entry? 
    A: A physical Card issued by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
    that allows pre-approved, low risk travelers expedited entry into the U.S. (not
    required but highly recommended)
  2. Q: How much is Global Entry and how do I obtain it? 
    A: Obtaining Global Entry is $120. Your status will last 5 Years. There is an
    application that must be completed and a follow-up appointment that needs to
    take place. The link below will direct you.

  1. Q: How do I obtain a Passport/what are the costs? 
    A: To obtain a Passport please see the link provided below. Cost is $130.
    PLEASE NOTE: Acceptance facilities include post office, clerks of court,
    public libraries and other local government offices, which except passport
    applications on behalf of the US Department of state. Search for facilities by
    ZIP Code, state or city/state.

  1. Q: What is an Evisa, why do I need it, and how do I get one? 
    A: It is a digital travel document that allows individuals to apply for and obtain
    a visa online. It allows access into the country to which you are traveling. You
    will need to obtain your Evisa once your flight is booked and hotel
    reservations are made. Under normal circumstances, the processing time for
    a Tourist Visa is 3 days. We will keep everyone informed on when to obtain
    your Evisas.
  2. Q. Are there any fees associated with an Evisa, how long does it last?
    A. The fee is $62 and it will last 30 days.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:

  1. Q: What should I expect on my first flight to Ethiopia? 
    A: Ethiopia Airlines will provide meals. TV screens are also provided to
    accommodate movies and games. They will provide a pillow, socks, and new
    ear buds for use. There are restrooms, but please note that with several on
    the flight the restrooms do not stay in the best of conditions. 
    Our best advice: Just be prepared for all of the above and be patient as we
    navigate our traveling experience.
  2. Q: What can I pack in my carry on? 
    A: You are allowed to bring liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your
    carry-on bag. They must be 3.4 Fl. OZ or less. Anything over 3.4 Fl OZ must
    be in checked baggage. Please check the airline’s website or google for
    further break-down.
  3. Q: Can I pack my medication/supplements in my carry on? 
    A: Yes. Medications/supplements in pill or other solid forms must undergo
    screening so please make sure they are packed properly to raise no suspicions. 
  4. Q: What Should I expect about Ethiopian food?
    A: In Ethiopia, the food is different from how we eat in America. Of course, you
    will find American-type cuisine, but there are other native food choices that have
    spices and other seasonings that may not agree with your appetite. PLEASE
    prepare yourself with Tums or the antacid of your choice.
